Founded in 1942, SYSO runs seven auditioned academic-year orchestras for more than 490 student musicians, including the Prelude String Orchestra, an entry-level ensemble for beginning and intermediate violin, viola, cello, and bass players. Orchestras rehearse on Saturdays from fall through spring, and summer options range from beginning-to-intermediate SYSO Summer Music to the advanced Marrowstone Music Festival.
