Founded in 1976, Issaquah Swim Team (the Sockeyes) is a year-round USA Swimming club of roughly 300 athletes training across pools in the greater Issaquah area. The program is built as a ladder: the Steelhead pre-competitive squads take swimmers ages 6-11 who can cover 100 yards and are learning legal strokes; Surge groups (Barracudas, Piranhas, Sharks) add dryland and 3-5 practices a week; the Sockeye age-group squads serve middle schoolers at 4-6 practices; and the Senior, Senior Performance, and Nationals groups train high schoolers up to 16 hours a week toward Regional, Sectional, and National meets. Placement is by skill, attendance, and coachability rather than age alone. New swimmers join through a tryout and should already know all four competitive strokes.
