Helene Madison Pool

Seattle, WA

Ages 0–16

About this program

A 25-yard indoor Seattle Parks and Recreation pool in the Haller Lake / Bitter Lake area of north Seattle, with a separate shallow section and 1m and 3m diving boards. It runs one of the largest learn-to-swim catalogues in the city on a quarterly schedule for ages 6 months to adults: Parent and Child Aquatics from 6 months, Three-Year-Old Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics (4-5), and Beginning, Advanced, Adaptive and Skills Refresh levels for school-age kids up to 16, plus one-on-one and small-group personal lessons. Intro to Diving and Advanced Diving classes run in the same quarterly blocks, and there is a Saturday Jr Masters fitness swim for youth. Madison fields a team in the citywide Summer Swim League for ages 7-18 from late June to early August. A skill assessment is required before Advanced Swimmer, Swim Team Prep, Diving or Summer Swim League. Because this is city rec, lessons are sold as quarterly sessions with fixed registration windows rather than rolling enrolment, and popular levels fill on registration day. The pool takes an annual maintenance closure in late August and is slated for locker room and plaster renovations in the 2027-2028 citywide pool package, but it is open and programming normally now.

What other people think about this program4.2
👍 What people like

Regulars call it a clean facility with good staff, a well-run indoor pool used even for fire-department rescue training, lots of parking plus bus and bike access, and free wallet lockers on the deck alongside quarter-operated ones.

👎 Worth knowing

Reviews centre on open swim rather than lessons. One parent describes lifeguards repeatedly interrupting closely supervised deep-water play with their child and found the experience unwelcoming; others note the building is showing its age and that parking can get tight.
