Amy Yee Tennis Center
4.3Seattle, WA
Ages 4–17About this program
Seattle Parks and Recreation's year-round tennis hub in the Mount Baker neighbourhood, with 10 indoor courts and 6 outdoor courts. It teaches juniors from age 4 1/2 to 17 using the USTA progression: Red Ball for the youngest players on short courts with slow foam balls, then Orange Ball for roughly ages 8-10, Green Ball for 11-13 and full Yellow Ball for older and more competitive juniors, with a Tennis Academy track for rated players 10-17. Group lessons are sold in six-week sessions, six times a year, with one-day level-based clinics between sessions and junior camps for ages 8-17 during school breaks; the centre also hosts USTA-sanctioned junior tournaments. Levels above beginner require an NTRP rating assigned by staff, so new families usually start in a Red, Orange or Green Ball class. Amy Yee also runs NetGen, a beginner-focused youth tennis league for roughly ages 6-10 played at more than a dozen park sites across the city. Because everything runs on the city's quarterly catalogue, classes open and close in fixed registration windows rather than enrolling continuously.
Players describe well-maintained indoor and outdoor courts at affordable public rates, a friendly tennis community, and staff and coaches who are consistently helpful and kind; recent facility work is noted approvingly.
Most Google reviews cover court rentals and adult play rather than the junior programme. Reviewers say evening courts and group-lesson spots are hard to get because booking is first-come by phone at 9:10am, which is difficult for people working normal hours, and one flags a poor racket-stringing job done at the centre.
