Shoreline Parks & Recreation Youth Sports
4.4Shoreline, WA
Ages 0–17About this program
The City of Shoreline's own recreation gym, run by Parks, Recreation & Community Services out of Spartan Recreation Center. Youth drop-in is free for both residents and non-residents: open-gym basketball runs Monday through Saturday and is listed as all ages, with the weekly gym schedule posted online. For the youngest children the centre runs Indoor Playground in the gymnasium on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to noon, with slides, teeter-totters, climbing toys, mini basketball hoops and bikes for ages 5 and under with a parent supervising, at $3 per child for residents or a 10-visit convenience pass for $30. Teens 14 and up may use the weight room, with 14 and 15 year olds accompanied by a parent. Programming is year-round but runs on Winter/Spring and Summer session calendars with scheduled breaks around school holidays, and some drop-in sports pause over the summer.
Reviewers repeatedly single out the front-desk and gym staff as friendly and helpful, and rate the value highly - youth drop-in is free and adult drop-in is only a few dollars. Regulars say there are reliably enough people for pickup basketball during every scheduled block, and appreciate that the weekly gym schedule is published online.
Most reviews describe the building as an adult community gym rather than the youth programming: the recurring complaints are a small weight room with no squat rack and few dumbbells, and a court that can be dirty or slick between its annual resurfacing. Almost none of the reviews speak to the Indoor Playground or youth open gym specifically.
