Seattle Parks & Recreation Youth Sports Leagues
Seattle, WA
Ages 5–17About this program
Seattle Parks and Recreation's Citywide Athletics division runs three seasonal youth leagues out of community centres across the city, all built around neighbourhood teams rather than tryouts. Fall is All Gender Volleyball for ages 10-13, roughly $95, with practices at community centres or nearby school gyms from early September to mid-November and Saturday matches, ending in a weekend jamboree; it is offered at more than 20 centres and is free at several equity-priority sites including Delridge, Hiawatha, High Point, Jefferson, Rainier, Rainier Beach, South Park and Van Asselt. Winter is All Gender Youth Basketball for ages 8-17, about $150, with registration opening in early October, practices from early December and games from early January through March. Spring is All Gender Track and Field for ages 5-17, about $95, running mid-April to late May with meets at West Seattle Stadium. Families can either bring their own coach and team or ask community centre staff to place their child on an existing team, and low enrolment at one centre can be handled by transferring to a nearby centre or withdrawing for a full refund. These are strictly seasonal leagues with one registration window each, not year-round programmes, and financial aid is available.
