North Kirkland Community Center is the City of Kirkland's main recreation building for children and has run classes for preschoolers, youth and teens for more than three decades. It hosts the largest share of the city's seasonal class catalog: Little Coders intro to coding (5-7) and Intro to Machine Learning (8-10) taught by Coding with Kids, Little Medical School's Wilderness Medicine (7-11), preschool ballet from age 3, cheer and tumbling, Skyhawks pickleball (4-12), McVander ball hockey (6-11) and parents' night out evenings. A free-form drop-in indoor playground for toddlers runs Wednesday mornings from mid-September through May. All-day, half-day and specialty summer camps cover ages 3-15. Classes are organised into fall/winter and spring/summer sessions published in the city's Recreation Activity Guide, so specific offerings change each season.
Unusually for a public facility, several reviewers write directly about the children's classes: one recommends the summer programme after their kids loved a Roblox game-building class and an art and drawing class, and another lists dance, cheerleading, ballet, monthly themed art, piano and tennis as classes their family has taken there. Staff, cleanliness and free on-site parking come up repeatedly, and a Metro stop is a couple of minutes' walk away.
The playground is across the street from the centre rather than beside it, there are no covered shelters, and the outdoor restrooms are seasonal, so a rainy day with young children can be awkward if the building is closed.
