A LEED Gold Seattle Parks and Recreation community centre across from the old Northgate Mall, with classrooms, an arts and crafts room and a teen room used for music teaching. Piano lessons and combined piano/electric guitar lessons run for ages 6 and up, sold as month-long blocks - September, October, November and December each register separately - so a family commits to four weeks at a time rather than a school year. Teen Guitar Group Lessons for ages 10-17 run as free seven-week blocks in the autumn, which makes this one of the cheapest ways for a Seattle teenager to start guitar. Adult guitar group lessons run in the same monthly pattern for anyone 18 and over. Because these are city rec sessions on a quarterly catalogue, each block has its own published registration date and popular slots fill quickly; there is no rolling enrolment. The centre also runs ballet and dance, cooking classes, Mathletics, teen programmes and Seattle Preschool Program classes.
Reviewers describe a clean, well-kept centre with a good gym, a free toddler gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays, a wide range of classes and summer camps for under-12s, and staff described as friendly and useful.
Google reviews are about the building and rentals rather than the music classes: parking is widely called inadequate because the lot is shared with Northgate Library, one family says a paid hall rental went badly wrong when no staff member turned up, and another describes a front-desk staff member handling a non-English-speaking family rudely.
