Kelsey Creek Farm is the City of Bellevue Parks & Community Services working demonstration farm, and it runs its own hands-on programmes for young children around the barnyard, gardens and historic buildings. Little Farmers (ages 2-3) is a caregiver-and-child session of barn chores, animal feeding, crafts and a pony ride; Farm Explorers (4-6) is a drop-off programme with animal care, barn chores, a pony ride, seasonal themes, crafts and stories; and Junior Farmers (7-9) is an after-school programme where children walk the animals, tend the garden and explore the park's natural habitats. Seasonal camps, farm-themed tours, birthday parties and a Farm Animal Pen Pal letter programme round out the offering. Programmes are published in separate winter and summer brochures and run in short seasonal sessions rather than year-round; scholarships are available to Bellevue residents of any age. Note that as an avian-flu precaution the farm has temporarily paused chicken and waterfowl interactions in guided tours and activities. The barnyard itself is free and open daily 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Reviewers rate the farm highly as an easy free family outing: cows, pigs, ponies, sheep, goats, rabbits, chickens and bees to see up close, a large updated playground, plenty of grass for picnics and attractive wooded surroundings. Several describe it as a place they have returned to across generations.
The 700-plus reviews describe free barnyard visits rather than the paid Little Farmers, Farm Explorers or Junior Farmers classes, so they are no guide to the teaching. Practical gripes: the car park gets busy on sunny weekends, and one reviewer felt the playground suits ages three and up better than toddlers.
